Moot Court Competition: Brief Graders and Competition Judges

Consider assisting with the Young Lawyers Section's Moot Court Competition! We have 32 student teams from around the country coming to Chicago from November 16-18, 2017. The event is held at the Dirksen Federal Building.


You must be an attorney in order to volunteer with the competition. If you have colleagues interested in helping, please feel free to forward this information. Additional details about volunteering as a brief grader or oral argument judge are below, as are links to sign up.

Brief Graders
Competitors’ briefs are due on October 20. Those who volunteer to grade briefs will be asked to retrieve their briefs from the CBA starting Friday, October 27. You will be provided score sheets and a summary of the case law and arguments expected from petitioner and respondent on both major issues. Graded briefs will be due on November 10. Each brief grader will be asked to grade approximately 5 briefs (this year, competitors were limited to 22 page briefs). Please fill out this volunteer form if you are interested in grading.

Oral Argument Judges
We are in need of judges for each round of arguments below:

Thursday, November 16 – 5:30 pm
Thursday, November 16 – 7:30 pm
Friday, November 17 – 5:30 pm
Friday, November 17 – 7:30 pm
Saturday, November 18 – 9:00 am
Saturday, November 18 – 10:30 am

Judges are eligible to receive MCLE credit for their time. All judges will be provided with score sheets, a bench memorandum, and a summary of the case law and arguments expected from petitioner and respondent on both major issues. Please fill out this volunteer form if you are interested in serving as a judge.
